TERMS & CONDITIONS

Last updated: August 2026

These Terms & Conditions apply to services provided by GS Thompson & Sons ("we", "us" or "our") to our customers ("you" or "the customer").

By accepting our quotation or instructing us to carry out work, you agree to these Terms & Conditions.

1. Our services

GS Thompson & Sons provides plastering, rendering and related services including, but not limited to:

  • Internal and external plastering

  • Skimming and re-skimming

  • Rendering

  • Silicone render systems

  • Dry lining

  • Lime plastering

  • Float and set

  • Coving

  • Plaster repairs and patching

The exact services to be provided will be set out in your quotation.

2. Quotations

We will provide a written quotation based on the information available to us at the time.

Unless otherwise stated, quotations are valid for 30 days.

Our quotation will outline the work we understand to be required and the agreed price.

A quotation may need to be revised if, once work begins, we discover conditions that could not reasonably have been identified when the quotation was prepared. We will discuss any significant additional work or costs with you before proceeding wherever reasonably possible.

A quotation is not a guarantee that every underlying condition has been identified, particularly where existing plaster, render, walls or ceilings are covered or inaccessible before work begins.

3. Accepting a quotation

Work will be scheduled once you have accepted our quotation and any required deposit or payment has been received.

Acceptance of a quotation confirms your agreement to the scope of work and these Terms & Conditions.

4. Additional work and variations

Sometimes additional work becomes necessary once existing surfaces are exposed.

Examples may include:

  • Damaged or loose existing plaster

  • Unsound backgrounds

  • Unexpected damp or moisture issues

  • Additional preparation requirements

  • Structural movement or cracking

  • Additional coats or materials required to achieve a suitable finish

We will discuss any significant additional work and agree the additional cost with you before carrying it out, wherever reasonably possible.

Small adjustments or necessary preparatory work may sometimes be required to complete the agreed work properly.

5. Payment

Our quotation will confirm the agreed payment terms.

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, payment is due in accordance with the payment schedule stated on the quotation or invoice.

Any outstanding balance is payable on completion of the agreed work.

We reserve the right to suspend work where agreed payments are not made when due.

6. Access and preparation

You are responsible for providing reasonable access to the property and the areas where work is to be carried out.

Where possible, rooms and working areas should be cleared of furniture, personal belongings and valuables before work begins.

We will take reasonable care to protect floors, furniture and other areas from dust and materials, but plastering and rendering are inherently messy processes and some dust or disruption should be expected.

7. Existing surfaces and conditions

We are not responsible for defects or problems within existing walls, ceilings, plaster, render or other surfaces that were not reasonably visible or identifiable before work began.

Where existing surfaces are found to be unsuitable, unstable or damaged, we may recommend additional preparation or remedial work before continuing.

We will explain any significant issues we discover and, where additional work is required, discuss the options with you.

8. Colour, texture and natural variation

Where materials such as lime plaster, traditional render or specialist render systems are used, the finished appearance may vary slightly due to the nature of the materials, application conditions and drying process.

Where colour or texture is selected by the customer, we cannot guarantee an exact match between samples, photographs and the finished result.

9. Drying and curing

Plaster, render and other applied finishes require appropriate time and conditions to dry and cure.

You agree to follow any reasonable guidance we provide regarding ventilation, heating, moisture and the use of newly finished areas.

Premature painting, decorating or exposure to excessive moisture may affect the finished result and may invalidate any workmanship guarantee where applicable.

10. Start dates and delays

We will make reasonable efforts to start work on the agreed date.

However, start dates may be affected by circumstances outside our reasonable control, including:

  • Severe weather

  • Delays to other trades

  • Material availability

  • Unexpected conditions within the property

  • Access issues

  • Changes requested by the customer

  • Other unforeseen circumstances

Where possible, we will keep you informed of any significant changes to the agreed schedule.

11. Customer changes and cancellation

If you wish to change or cancel agreed work after accepting our quotation, please let us know as soon as possible.

Depending on the circumstances, you may be responsible for reasonable costs already incurred, including materials ordered specifically for your project, labour already undertaken or other non-refundable costs.

Where consumer cancellation rights apply, these will take precedence over this section.

12. Workmanship

We take pride in delivering work to a high standard and will carry out the agreed services with reasonable care and skill.

If you believe there is an issue with completed work, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible so that we have an opportunity to inspect the work and, where appropriate, put the issue right.

We will not be responsible for defects caused by subsequent work carried out by others, misuse, damage, structural movement, moisture ingress or conditions outside our control.

13. Complaints

If you have any concerns about our work, please contact us promptly.

We will always aim to resolve genuine issues fairly and reasonably and, where appropriate, arrange an inspection of the work before determining the appropriate remedy.

14. Photographs of completed work

We may wish to photograph completed projects for our portfolio, website or social media.

We will not publish photographs that identify you, your family or your personal belongings without your permission.

If you do not wish us to photograph or use images of your property, please let us know.

15. Liability

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits any liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited under UK law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or your statutory consumer rights.

Subject to this, we will not be responsible for losses arising from circumstances outside our reasonable control or from defects or damage caused by third parties, pre-existing conditions or subsequent works carried out by others.

16. Consumer rights

If you are a consumer, nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects your statutory rights under UK consumer law.

Where applicable, consumer protection legislation will take precedence over any conflicting provision in these Terms & Conditions.

17. Privacy

Any personal information you provide to us will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

18. Governing law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, subject to any applicable consumer rights.
